KinCheck ("we", "our", or "us") is a senior monitoring application designed to help families stay connected with elderly loved ones. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting the personal information of all our users.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you use the KinCheck mobile application and related services.
Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide our services:
- Account Information: Your name, email address, and password when you register.
- Profile Data: Optional profile photo you choose to upload.
- Location Data: GPS coordinates of senior users, only when location sharing is explicitly enabled by the senior. Family members can view this location only within their circle.
- Check-in Data: Daily check-in status, mood, and optional notes submitted by seniors.
- SOS Events: Emergency alerts triggered by senior users, including timestamp and location at time of trigger.
- Medication Records: Medication schedules and logs, including optional photo proof of medication taken.
- Activity Feed: Events shared within your family circle (check-ins, SOS alerts, medication logs).
- Device Token: Firebase Cloud Messaging token for push notification delivery.
- Subscription Data: Google Play purchase tokens for subscription verification. We do not store credit card information.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve KinCheck:
- To deliver real-time check-in status and SOS alerts to family members
- To send push notifications for missed check-ins, SOS events, and daily summaries
- To display location on a map for family members within the same circle
- To track medication schedules and provide reminders
- To verify and manage your subscription status via Google Play
- To maintain your family circle membership and access controls
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the KinCheck service.
Location Data
Location sharing is an opt-in feature controlled entirely by the senior user:
- Location is only collected when the senior has explicitly enabled sharing in the app.
- Location data is visible only to members of the senior's family circle.
- Location history is stored for a maximum of 7 days and then automatically deleted.
- The senior can disable location sharing at any time from the Location tab in the app.
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share your data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Family Circle Members: Data is shared within your circle as part of the core service.
- Firebase (Google): Device tokens are sent to Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver push notifications.
- Google Play: Purchase tokens are verified with Google Play Billing for subscription management.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes. EU residents have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority (DPA) regarding our processing of their personal data.
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text.
- Authentication tokens are stored securely using device-level secure storage.
- Our servers are hosted on a secured VPS with restricted access controls.
- Our servers are located in the United States. By using KinCheck, you consent to your data being transferred to and processed in the United States.
While we take every reasonable precaution, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong password and keep your account credentials confidential.
Data Retention
- Account data: Retained as long as your account is active.
- Location history: Automatically deleted after 7 days.
- Activity feed: Retained for 90 days.
- SOS events: Retained for 1 year for safety audit purposes.
- Account deletion: Upon request, all your personal data will be permanently deleted within 30 days.
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
- Opt-out: Disable location sharing or notifications at any time within the app.

Children's Privacy
KinCheck is designed for adults aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify users via a push notification or in-app message. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
